2023 World Day For African And Afro descendant Culture

Bida UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art celebrated the World Day for African and Afro-Descendant Culture on January 24, 2023. As part of the activities commemorating the day, two schools were invited to the Gbongbofu brass production workshop to observe the process of creating artistic pieces using brass and aluminum materials.

The creators shared their methods of visualizing ideas and producing artwork, rooted in the local wisdom and knowledge passed down through generations.

The students were given a guided tour of the workshop, where they observed the traditional methods of creating artwork.

The masterclass workshop was organized by Bida UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art in collaboration with the Bida Local Government Council.

The students took turns trying their hands at creating artwork, experiencing firsthand how artisans handle local tools. The school visits to the master creators’ studios were aimed at:

  • Developing an appreciation for crafts and creating awareness of the creative economy.
  • Sharing experiences and skills with students.
  • Preserving cultural practices.
  • Stimulating creativity in the minds of students.
  • Encouraging learning from the wisdom and knowledge of older generations.
