Paper Week 2024

The Comieco project, involving the city of Fabriano, encompasses over 200 events across the nation, aimed at education and information with an expected attendance of over 50,000 people. The initiative seeks to enhance knowledge about the world of paper in its various forms, delve into proper recycling practices, and explore recycling mechanisms. The event range includes art, industrial production, games, theatrical performances, cooking, and writing, integrating culture, daily life, history, and future prospects—all key elements of the paper and cardboard ecosystem.

In Fabriano, the heart of the activities will be the Paper and Watermark Museum, the main venue for the RicicloAperto events. Here, participants can engage in learning and fun by experimenting with handmade paper using recycled mixtures and creating personalized watermarks labeled “Paperweek.” These activities will be led by the Master Papermakers of the Fabriano Museum, who have been unveiling the secrets of paper production, a material that has undergone significant technical evolutions, for over thirty years.

The week is promoted by the COMIECO Consortium, supported by over 3,300 companies, forming a network that recycles more than 3.6 million tons of paper and cardboard annually, with a recycling rate exceeding 80% for the past five years, well ahead of European targets.

The Culture Councilor of the Municipality of Fabriano expressed satisfaction in hosting the event, highlighting the opportunity to appreciate the material’s versatility and to understand the  effective recycling system, promoting local creative excellence with a view towards sustainable future. Paper Week is organized in collaboration with the Paper and Graphics Federation, with Unirima, and it is endorsed by ANCI, the Ministry of Environmental and Energy Security, and Utilitalia.
