Among this year&#8217;s surprises, Italy was honored with a place of excellence, with the city of Massa-Carrara earning the 17th spot on the list.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for this unexpected inclusion was described by the U.S. newspaper as the city&#8217;s recognition as the home of marble, transformed into authentic masterpieces of art.<\/p>\n<p>Although the real &#8220;home of marbles&#8221; is Carrara, Massa (formerly known as Massa di Carrara) was praised for its cultural treasures, such as the Ducal Palace and Malaspina Castle.<\/p>\n<p>Both cities, in addition to sharing a province, are steeped in a passion for art, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the Apuan Alps, the same mountains from which the famous marble was quarried.<\/p>\n<p>Here one can admire masterpieces such as Michelangelo&#8217;s David or explore the marble quarries that have shaped the region&#8217;s artistic history.
